What are the session fees? Fees are similar to other clinical psychologist fees in Ontario. Please contact us for more details and any other questions.
Please note that psychologist fees in private practice are not covered by OHIP. However, most Extended Health Care Benefit plans do cover them. Please feel free to contact your insurance provider to find out what your coverage is for a registered psychologist. The costs of psychological services that have not been reimbursed by your extended health benefit plan (or if you don’t have extended health benefits) can be eligible to claim as a medical expense on your taxes.
Do I need a physician referral? No, you do not need a physician referral to engage in services.
Why see a Psychologist? A registered clinical psychologist with a PhD degree has approximately 10+ years of undergraduate and graduate education. Registration as a psychologist in Ontario requires a doctorate degree in psychology from a recognized university (including the completion of pre-doctoral clinical practica and residency) , a 1 - 2 year supervised post-doctoral supervised practice experience, and passing numerous rigorous examinations required by the College of Psychologists of the registering Province (for me that’s Ontario). In addition to providing therapy/psychotherapy support, Psychologists also have the designation to diagnose various mental health disorders.
Will the information discussed with my psychologist be confidential?
Keeping your information confidential is a priority for us and we follow the confidentiality guidelines of the College of Psychologists of Ontario. There are a few circumstances in which psychologists can disclose your private information, and these circumstances will be reviewed with you during your first session (for example, when there is imminent risk of serious bodily harm to oneself or someone else, reasonable suspicion of risk of harm/abuse to a child under 16, sexual abuse/harassment/assault by a regulated health professional, risk of abuse/harm to an individual living in a long-term care facility or nursing home, court orders/subpoenas, quality audits by the College of Psychologists of Ontario, police can require the release of information in the case of a missing person, etc.) so that you are aware of the limits of confidentiality. We will answer any questions you may have regarding your privacy and invite you to review and sign a written practice policy and consent document prior to commencing our services.
